Margaret accidentally minored in art history at Northwestern University. However, it was not until 1993 that she began creating art.
That year she recounts: “I faced many emotions I had no place to put. Numerous friends died and my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. So I began to put emotions on paper.”
Margaret has been creating art full time for over ten years. Her work has been exhibited in San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay as well as at The Center for the Visual Arts in Oakland, California. She uses a highly unusual mono printing technique resulting in acrylic monopeels -- prints with a unique surface quality and exceptionally intense color. Margaret Bertrand and Robert Dodge are the only county artists using this technique which they learned from its developer, Jon Rife of San Francisco.
Color intensity is the hallmark of Margaret’s work.
