Currently I teach aesthetics and art history at the Academy of Art University in SF and run a small art school on the central coast (cheryl’s art workshops). I've curated intaglio exhibitions at the Norton Simon Museum, Laguna Beach Museum, and the Southwest Museum, trained docents at the Oakland Museum and SF MOMA, and am published as an art critic and poet.

My travels and living experiences abroad include working for NGOs in Africa and teaching and writing in developing countries throughout the world. These latter experiences especially, have added dimensions to my art.

CHERYL BARTON-PETRIE
Aristotle believed that art was techne, or craft, and mimesis, or imitation; however, also that it was a tool for learning and understanding nature, a tool to pursue our essential driving forces. To me, the process of art is the road to enlightenment. I work in response to the imbalance and battles I feel in my head and in this troubled world. In my art, I try to offer a sense of peace, yet also awareness; to capture the essence of nostalgia, but also hope. Experimenting and process will always fascinate me---why I love printmaking.
